This annual report covers the scientific research which was carried out at the RCNP during the period from April 1, 1981, to March 31, 1982. The RCNP is an inter-university laboratory which was founded in 1971, and experimental studies have been carried out since 1976 by inside and outside users. The main research is related to the field of fundamental nuclear physics. The cyclotron and the experimental facilities were operated reliably in the fiscal year 1981. The proportion of the beam time for polarized deuteron increased this year. The experimental works were concentrated on high resolution studies through inelastic scattering and transfer reaction. Almost a half of the beam time was devoted to the experiment using the magnetic spectrograph RAIDEN. The main subjects of nuclear research were as follows: few nucleon problem, elastic or inelastic scattering of polarized protons and deuterons, transfer reaction, breakup of deuterons and He-3, giant multipole resonance, hole and hole analog states, highly excited state and de-excitation process, spin excitation, heavy ion reaction and beta decay. The triple focusing mass separator called CARP and the dual magnetic spectrograph called DUMAS were assembled in the RCNP in March, 1982. (Kako, I.)
