Kinetics of the redox reaction of the U(III) ions with hydrazoic acid

Description
The kinetics and mechanism of the redox reaction of the U(III) ions with hydrazoic acid was studied. The kinetics of this reaction is represented by the equation -d[U(III)]/dt=k[U(III)][HN3]. The activation parameters in the 0.4 M solution of HCl are ΔH=43.1 kJ mol-1 and ΔS=-142.3 J mol-1K-1. The probable reaction mechanism and the influence of the solvent in binary solvent mixtures (water-methanol, water-ethanol, water-isopropyl alcohol) are discussed. (author)
