Improved orbital MR imaging with section-selection gradient reversal technique
Description
Chemical shift imaging of the orbit utilizing section-select gradient reversal (SSGR) was compared with routine T1 and T2 spin-echo images on a 1.5-T (Picker) system in 20 patients and three normal volunteers. With SSGR, only water protons are refocused, resulting in fat suppression and elimination of chemical shift artifacts (CSAs). Improved images of the optic nerve in the orbital apex, where CSAs on T1 and T2 spin-echo images can obscure anatomic details, were observed with SSGR. Tumoral enlargement of the optic nerve and the relationship of intraocular masses to the uveal-scleral coat were best defined with SSGR
