On the evolution of energetic particle fluxes while injecting into the magnetosphere

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

An analytical description of the motion of charged particles and the evolution of their distribution in the equatorial region was made. It is assumed that the time of injection of energetic particles from the plasma layer of the geomagnetic tail into the internal part of the magnetosphere is so small that the nonadiabatic effects causing scattering over pitch angles can be neglected. Simple regularities governing the adiabatic motion of particles with small pitch angles under the effect of a large-scale electric field were obtined. The flux of particles spilling into the atmosphere due to the depression of the points of reflection was also found
