Evaluation of ascites with computed tomography

Based on the examination of 46 patients with ascites computed tomographic anatomy of the peritoneal cavity is presented. Computed tomography findings of ascites and frequency of fluid filling of the peritoneal recesses, excavations and spaces is given. Filling with fluid of the Moris pouch and lesser sac was found only in some patients with advanced ascites. Minimal amount of peritoneal fluid should be sought in the right perihepatic space in right decubitus. Sensitivity of the CT diagnosis of liver cirrhosis or a neoplasm in a patient with ascites was found to be 81%. (author)
