Chemism of Cr(6) and V(5) extraction by tetraoctyl ammonium chloride

Description
The chemism of Cr(6) and V(5) extraction by tetraoctylammonium chloride has been investigated. In the pH range 1.0-8.5 V(5) is extracted as decavanadate-ion H4V10O282-, in the pH range 8.8-10.0 the extractable form is metavanadate-ion and pirovanadate at pH>10.0. The Cr(6) is extracted as HCr2O7- at pH<6.0, in the pH range 6.0-8.0 the dimer Cr2O72- is extracted, and monomer CrO42- is extracted at pH<80. The range of maximum Cr(6) and v(5) extraction corresponds to the maximum polymerization degree of the metals both in the aqueous and organic phases
