Sorption characteristics of Pu(IV) on silica gel impregnated with Aliquat-336

  • 1. Fuel Chemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

A new ion exchange material prepared by impregnating Aliquat-336 on silica gel and its application to recover plutonium from oxalate supernatants have been investigated. Experiments have been carried on the uptake of Pu(IV) from nitric/oxalic acid solutions. The distribution ratios of Pu(IV) were studied for various nitric acid and oxalic acid concentrations. The presence of Al(III) and Fe(III) in nitric/oxalic acid solutions enhances the uptake of Pu(IV). Desorption of plutonium has also been studied using different reducing agents. (author)
