Shielding device for the gap between the containment of a nuclear power plant and inner platforms adjacent to the containment walls

Between the containment and a platform within it there is a gap. By means of segmented concrete shielding elements this gap is shielded according to the requirements of radiation protection. These shielding elements hang and lie on pivot bearings in such a way that a swing towards the inner wall of the containment is caused by their own weight. Displacements of the building are absorbed by an elastic buffer arranged between the inner wall and the shielding element. (orig./PW)
