KWO Obrigheim nuclear power plant. Annual report 1995
Description
The Obrigheim nuclear power plant, which started operation late in 1968 and then was a demonstration plant of the Federal Republic of Germany, is equipped with a PWR manufactured by Siemens, and its operating year 1995 was characterized by full-load operation almost throughout the entire year. The output achieved over 6.717 operating hours was 2.284 GWh of electric power. This means that, considering the shutdown period in 1995 for inspection and maintenance, the KWO achieved an availability factor of well 99% in the year under review. The plant's aggegated electric output since start-up in October 1968 amounts to 64.251 GWh (gross) over a total of 189.890 operating hours. Since the trial run in March 1969 until the end of the year 1995, a period covering 189.110 operating hours all in all, the electric output was 64.139 GWh, which equals for this time period a load factor of 78.1% and an availability factor of 80.4%. In 1995, the plant was shut down for 2.031 hours for the 25th reactor refuelling and inspection and maintenance. This period includes 116 hours of idle time spent waiting for the approval for plant start-up by the supervisory authority, because of the evaluation of the brittle fracture safety data for the reactor pressure vessel, conducted during the inspection shutdown period by several expert groups. Apart from this period, the plant achieved a very good availability factor and thus contributed approx. 5% to the power supply for Baden-Wuettemberg, generated by safe, economic and environmentally friendly technology. The KWO nuclear power station is an important factor in its region both with regard to electric power supply and the entire economy of the region. (orig.)

(orig.)Additional details
