On the inhomogeneity effect on the turbulence spectrum of a magnetoactive plasma

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Avtomatiki i Ehlektrometrii

Description

The high-frequency turbulence spectra of a magnetized inhomogeneous plasma due to stimulated scattering by ions are obtained. It is shown that even a very smooth inhomogeneity leads to an appreciable anisotropy of the turbulence. The number of waves moving along the direction of the gradient considerably differs from the number of waves propagating in the opposite direction. For oscillations propagating in the direction of decreasing density the inhomogeneity leads to a considerable increase of Landau damping. As a result an appreciable part of the absorbed energy is transferred to fast electrons and a current along the magnetic field arises. The effect of stochastic inhomogeneity is investigated and it is found that fast electrons also appear in this case. The role of decay processes is discussed
