Estimation of ruthenium-106 in urine

  • 1. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India). Safety Research and Health Physics Programme

Description

A method has been developed for estimating ruthenium-106 in urine. Ruthenium present in the sample was oxidised to ruthenium tetroxide using potassium periodate after complete destruction of the organic matter. The ruthenium tetroxide was allowed to react with polyethylene powder in-situ and beta counted. The recovery of ruthenium-106 was 89.8±4.6% (5.1% RSD), and the minimum detection limit 6 Bq/l.
