Nebulae around quasars
Description
The nature of nebulae around quasars is discussed in a popular form. For this purpose experimental data obtined for three quasars 3C 279, 3C 206, and 3C 48 are considered. The nebula spectrum around the quasar 3C 273 contains weak and narrow lines of once ionized oxygen and twice ionized nytrogen. The nebula spectrum around the quasar 3C 206 contains lines of neutral hydrogen and twice ionized oxygen. In more details investigated is the nebula near the quasar 3C 48. As it is pointed out hower in the paper the present data do not permit to make unambigous conclusions on the nature of those nebulae. In order to solve the problem necessary are big telescopes and high-quality light detecting equipment capable of detecting images and spectra of regions with surface brightness which constitutes several percent of that of the night sky
