What prospects for energy suppliers in Europe?
Description
Energy suppliers move in a complex market in Europe. Given the EU's regulatory framework, which has constantly backed market liberalization, they face intense, diversified competition. Given their business model, structurally subject to high costs, they also face a systemic risk of shrinking margins due to price fluctuations and their customers' increasing bargaining power. In this context with its competitive and financial pressures, they could use the next five years to explore several possibilities: how to differentiate their offers of energy-related services, how to use digital technology to make customers loyal and optimize commercial costs, how to limit bottlenecks in the supply chain and how to stimulate growth by diversifying their activities. En Europe, les fournisseurs d'energie evoluent sur un marche complexe. Dans un cadre reglementaire europeen qui n'a eu de cesse de favoriser la liberalisation, ils font face a une menace d'intensification et de diversification de la concurrence. Par ailleurs, alors que leur business model est structurellement soumis a des couts eleves, ils sont confrontes a un risque systemique de contraction de leur marge lie a la volatilite des prix de marche et au pouvoir de negociation grandissant de leurs clients. Dans ce cadre concurrentiel et financier contraint, plusieurs pistes pourraient etre explorees d'ici a cinq ans par les fournisseurs d'energie: differencier leur gamme d'offres de services energetiques, exploiter le digital comme levier de fidelisation de leur clientele et d'optimisation de leurs couts commerciaux, limiter leurs contraintes d'approvisionnement ou encore explorer de nouveaux relais de croissance par la diversification de leurs activites.
