Structural design of Large Helical Device

  • 1. Toshiba Corp., Kawasaki, Kanagawa (Japan)

Description

A structural design of the Large Helical Device (LHD) has been performed with proposals of: (1) application of forced flow superconductor to helical can poloidal coils, (2) toroidal shell for support structure of the coils and (3) corrugated vacuum vessel with high temperature difference between inner and outer skins. Structural analyses of these components have also been carried out to understand their mechanical behaviors including load transmission and to assess the structural reliabilities of the LHD.
