Description
An introduction to the basis of superconductivity is given. Materials suitable for use in superconducting magnets and their essential properties are presented followed by a discussion on the status of conductor development. A survey of stabilization methods, behavior of the superconductor under normal operating conditions and special requirements of superconductors for fusions magnets are given. Magnet technology and its status is briefly discussed. Existing magnet systems are introduced. Finally some of the most important problems encountered in developing big toroidal magnet systems are mentioned
