Description
An appreciation of ultrasound imaging begins with an understanding of the propagation of acoustic waves and their interaction with tissues. In this paper, the attenuation, speed of sound, and reflectivity are examined. These studies lead to an understanding of the critical factors affecting the design of ultrasound transducers and imaging equipment. The effects of these factors on imaging performance such as resolution and penetration are discussed
