Energy transfer between Pb2+ and Gd3+

  • 1. Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (Netherlands). Fysisch Lab.

Description

The possibilities of the sensitization of the Gd3+ luminescence by Pb2+ ions has been studied in Tb3+-activated gadolinium compounds (GdBO3 and GdB3O6) and alkaline-earth gadolinium compounds (Ba3-xGd1+x(PO4)3(SiO4)x with x = O and 1, and Sr2Gd8(SiO4)6O2). Incomplete or even absence of Pb2+ to Gd 3+ energy transfer was observed for GdBO3, GdB3O6 and Ba3-xGd1+x(PO4)3-x(SiO4)x. In these compounds the Pb2+ luminescence has a large Stokes shift. The result is that Pb2+ ions are out of resonance with the Gd3+ ions for energy transfer
