Three dimensional studies of helical equilibria and magnetic surface breaking due to the finite beta effect

Description

Three dimensional equilibrium and breaking of magnetic surfaces due to the finite beta effect in a l=2 heliotron/torsatron configuration are studied by using a newly developed three-dimensional equilibrium code. The breaking is significantly suppressed as γc (pitch parameter) becomes smaller. An in-ward shift of the plasma by using the vertical field and elliptic (vertical) shaping using the quadrupole field can also suppress the breaking. (author)
