Combined neutron-gamma detector
Description
A dual purpose scintillator is manufactured by embedding glass beads in a γ-sensitive plastic scintillator. The glass is Ce activated, and contains Li-G, which reacts to neutrons thermalised by the plastic. This scintillator is connected to a P.M. tube and a discriminator. The latter separates neutron-induced pulses from the glass and γ-induced pulses from the plastic on the basis of pulse shape. The result is a lightweight and compact neutron-gamma detector. (HP)

Durch Einbetten von Glasperlen in einen γ-empfindlichen Plastikszintillator wird ein Doppelzweckszintillator hergestellt. Das Glas ist aktiviert und enthaelt Li-G, das mit Neutronen, die durch das Plastikmaterial thermisch gemacht werden, reagiert. Dieser Szintillator wird mit einer Photovervielfacher-Roehre und einem Diskriminator verbunden. Letzterer trennt neutroneninduzierte Impulse aus dem Glas und γ-induzierte Impulse aus dem Plastikmaterial aufgrund der Impulsform. Das Ergebnis ist ein leichter und kompakter Neutronen-Gamma-Detektor. (HP)Files
