Effects of upstream pipe disturbances on control valves
Description
Piping configurations upstream of a control valve can cause flow disturbances that affect the performance and use of the control valve. Problems created by the installation of control valves downstream from such piping components as elbows and pipe reducers, can be serious. Very little information is available on the effects of upstream piping disturbances upon control valves. This paper discusses methods for predicting the effect of upstream disturbances upon the valve characteristics of flow capacity, pressure loss, cavitation, maximum possible flow or flashing, and flow induced torque
