Evolution of close binary stars under the asumption of momentum loss by means of magnetic stellar wind

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Astronomicheskij Sovet

Description

A simple method to compute the evolution of semidetached close binaries, having secondaries with degenerate helium cores and losing momentum via magnetic stellar wind is outlined. The results of computations to estimate the initial parameters of some low-mass algols under assumptions of conservative and nonconservative mass exchange are used. It has been shown that the assumption of conservative mass exchange leads to contradicting initial parameters, while assumption of momentum loss via magnetic stellar wind allows to resolve these contradictions
