Description

The dosimetric performance characteristics of a new direct ion storage (DIS) dosimeter (Type DIS-1) with a reader (Type DBR-1) manufactured by RADOS Technology have been examined at the Dosimetry Management Division, Dep. of Health Physics, JAERI Tokai Research Establishment. The main objectives of this experimental work are to obtain the characteristics of DIS dosimeters such as batch uniformity, stability of stored dose information at room temperature (fading), dose dependence linearity, energy dependence and angular dependence for photon beams. The irradiations were made using an X-ray generator and γ-ray irradiators at Facility of Radiation Standard (FRS) in JAERI. The reference irradiation fields with several kinds of dose equivalent rates and energies provided by these irradiators have traceability of Japanese National Standard at the Electro-Technical Laboratory (FTL). The measured quantities were personal dose equivalents, Hp(d) at depth d=10 mm and d=0.07 mm, i.e. Hp(10) and Hp(0.07) respectively. The experimental results of the performance tests of DIS dosimeters were compared with the performance criteria of the International Standard on Thermoluminescence Dosimetry System for Personal and Environmental Monitoring CEI/IEC 1066 (1991). Based on the results obtained, the applicability of the DIS dosimeters for use in an official personal dose monitoring system has been discussed. (author)
