Thermal characteristics of a CASTOR Ia container for spent fuel elements

Description

The calculations performed by means of simple computational methods proved much higher temperatures during the storage of FE with air cooling by natural convection than indicated from the operators' side. The temperatures are beyond the indicated peak temperatures exceeding 6000C due to an inhomogeneous power distribution. The author considers these results to be too negative. (DG)

Abstract (German)

Die mit einem einfachen Rechenverfahren durchgefuehrten Berechnungen ergaben, dass deutlich hoehere Temperaturen bei der Lagerung der BE mit Luftkuehlung durch Naturkonvektion entstehen als von der Betreiberseite her angegeben wurden. Die Temperaturen liegen ueber den angegebenen Spitzentemperaturen bei ueber 6000C aufgrund einer inhomogenen Leistungsverteilung. Diese Ergebnisse erscheinen dem Autor als zu bedrohlich. (DG)
