Description

The analytical measurement results obtained during the last decade for the radionuclide, trace element and heavy metal concentrations in sediment, periphyton and water samples collected from the Danube River were explained with respect to the partitioning coefficients. The periphyton concentration ratios (CR's) for each isotope were correlated with the sediment distribution coefficients (Kd's) for that isotope. The Kd-CR relationships obtained were defined by the equation lg Kd =-0.70 lg CR + 3.16. The Kd-CR relationship determined in this work was compared with the Kd-CR relationships proposed by Baes and Shepard. (author)
