On the test of asymptotic freedom of strong interactions
Description
On the basis of the general principles of quantum field thoery, the possibility of existence of Bjorken scaling and a test for asymptotic freedom of strong interactions are considered. In contrast with Gross and Wilczek, it is shown that exact Bjorken scaling is possible and that Bjorken scaling, up to logarithmic terms, takes place not only in asymptotically free field theories, but also in other field theories, where the invariant coupling constant goes to infinity in a well-defined manner. Furthermore, the asymptotic freedom leads to a slow decrease of the differential cross-section as s and t tend to infinity. It is suggested that the mechanism of small-angle interactions is essentially different from that of large-angle interactions
