Testing of the river system simulator on the Stjoerdalen river system. Simulation of hydropower production and control using VANSIMPLAN

Description

This report describes a part of the testing of a computer simulator for river systems. The simulator can be used to simulate how a river system is affected by various types of exploitation and will be especially useful for consequence analyses. The simulator has been tested on three river systems in Norway. Being one of 17 reports on the complete testing, this report describes VANSIMPLAN, which is one of the modules of the simulator. VANSIMPLAN is used in the simulation of hydro power production and control. The simulation is carried out for a number of years, typically the period 1931 - 1980. Every week decisions are made at a regional level about optimal power production, supplies to various types of consumption and exchange on the spot market. The results from the program can be stored for use by other modules of the simulator. 6 refs., 8 figs., 3 tabs
