Inertial confinement fusion driven by heavy ion beams

  • 1. Max-Planck-Institut fuer Quantenoptik, Garching (Germany, F.R.)

Description

Heavy ion inertial confinement fusion is reviewed with emphasis on the physics of fusion targets for direct and indirect drive, on radio-frequency and induction linear accelerators as the major options for reactor drivers, and on accelerator and plasma target experiments for heavy ion fusion, now starting at the SIS/ESR accelerator in Darmstadt.
