South Africa now has the expertise and the materials to make sophisticated nuclear weapons. It is explained how, with the assistance of the West, South Africa has become a nuclear power and, with more collaboration, could move into the thermonuclear arena. It may already have tested nuclear weapons and it should be regarded as a nuclear weapon power. (author)
