Modern off-gas treatment processes for wood furnaces. Part 1. Catalytic process for emission reduction from small furnaces

Description

A new, simple and low-cost catalyst for hydrocarbons was developed at the Institute of Energy and Environmental Engineering (Institut fuer Energie- und Umwelttechnik, IUTA). The catalyst consists of purified noble steel chips which are turned into a thermally and mechanically stable catalyst by doping with various transition metals. Further development activities resulted in a catalytic system for exhaust purification in small furnaces, which was tested in several private households in order to define the need for further optimisation in terms of practicability and availability.
