The Transwal nuclear district heating project
Description
No other form of energy is as favourable as nuclear district heat in respect of anti-pollution effects, space requirements and reliability of supply. In Switzerland there are projects for the withdrawal of heat for feeding district heating grids on all completed and proposed nuclear power plants. These projects are in different stages of completion. One of them has already been completed and has been supplying heat to the communities connected for three years. The Transwal project (transport of heat into the Aare and Limmat valleys) is described in greater detail. Nuclear district heat, if properly planned and put into practice, is competitive compared to oil and gas at a fuel oil price of more than 60 DM/100 kg. Also, its use in place of fuel oil saves sizeable amounts of foreign exchange. The currently very low cost of fuel oil and the Chernobyl reactor incident hamper materialization of the project. Keine andere Energieform ist hinsichtlich Umweltentlastung, Raumbedarf und Versorgungssicherheit so guenstig wie die nukleare Fernwaerme. In der Schweiz gibt es fuer alle ausgefuehrten oder geplanten Kernkraftwerke Projekte zum Auskoppeln von Waerme zur Speisung von Fernwaermenetzen. Die Projekte befinden sich in verschiedenen Ausfuehrungsstadien, eines davon ist bereits realisiert und liefert seit drei Jahren Waerme an die angeschlossenen Gemeinden. Das Projekt Transwal (Transport von Waerme ins Aare- und Limmattal) wird naeher beschrieben. Nukleare Fernwaerme ist, wenn richtig geplant und ausgefuehrt, gegenueber Oel und Gas konkurrenzfaehig bei einem Heizoelpreis von mehr als 60 DM/100 kg. Durch die Substitution von Erdoel werden zudem namhafte Beitraege an Devisen gespart. Der zur Zeit sehr tiefliegende Oelpreis und der Reaktorunfall in Tschernobyl behindern die Realisierung der Projekte. (orig.)Additional details
