An integrated approach to natural and geo synthetic clay barriers performance against the diffusion of a pollution plume from municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills
Description
Technical requirements for the landfills of municipal wastes in the European Union (EU) are given in the Council Directive 1993/31/EC. A geological barrier of at least 1 m thickness with a hydraulic conductivity (HC) of 1x10-9 m/s is required. Where the geological barrier does not naturally present the above conditions, a geological barrier of at least 0.5 m thick must be artificially established. (Author)
