Industrial computerized toimography

Computerized tomography (CT) is a special X-ray technique in which a sectional view of the body under examination is produced. The systems developed for medical uses cannot be directly applied to problems of technical inspection because, on the one hand, the thicknesses of materials to be examined absorb radiation much more strongly than human tissues do and, as a consequence, the mathematical reconstruction algorithms must be modified and, on the other hand, because problems of industrial inspection and testing require special manipulators and detector systems. Moreover, technical requirements with respect to contrast and resolution can be much higher in many or most cases. (orig.)
