The 6th regular inspection, including voluntary inspection and modification, of the experimental fast reactor Joyo started on December 10, 1986, and ended on September 7, 1987. Checking and inspection of the facilities and equipment were carried out according to the Long-Term Regular Inspection Plan. Necessary modifications to facilities were also made. The inspection covered the nuclear reactor, facilities for handling and storage of nuclear fuel material, those for nuclear reactor cooling systems, those for measurement control systems, those for disposal of radioactive wastes, those for radiation management, those for reactor containment, and other auxiliary facilities. These were inspected with respect to their appearance, leaks, functions and performance. No abnormalities were detected. All work involved in the regular inspection was carried out under conditions below the permissible exposure levels as specified in law. Modifications were made to the primary sodium coolant purification facilities, radioactive waste disposal facilities and nuclear instrumentation system. The batteries for the uninterruptive power supply were replaced. (Nogami, K.)
