Protection of organism against unnecessary ionizing radiation in stomatology
Description
The beam of X-rays emitted by Stomax (Chirena) dental X-ray unit and similar other radiological apparatuses exceeds considerably the size of a standard dental film - 3 x 4 cm and the patient is exposed thus to unnecessary radiation. The introduction of an additional cone-shaped screen made of lead plate 1 mm thick with an outlet about 3 cm in diameter under the lead screen with a 2 cm diameter in the cone-shaped beam director limits the dimensions of the beam to those of a standard dental film (approximately). A properly designed lead screen 1 mm thick, slightly larger than the standard X-ray film intended for multiple use for dental X-ray examinations placed behind the dental film absorbs nearly completely X-rays which pass beside the film and those passing through it.
