Description

Highlights: • Two new CPs were synthesized with a semirigid bi-functional ligand (H2mttia). • These two CPs possess different structures, dimensionalities and topologies. • [Cd(mttia)(H2O)]n exhibits an intense fluorescent emission band. • [Cu(mttia)]n shows a strong antiferromagnetic superexchange between Cu2+ ions. - Abstract: Two new coordination polymers, namely [Cd(mttia)(H2O)]n (1) and [Cu(mttia)]n (2), have been synthesized with a novel semirigid bi-functional ligand 5-((1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)thio)isophthalic acid (H2mttia) under hydrothermal condition. The two compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and powder X-ray diffraction. It is demonstrated that compound 1 features a 2D 2-nodal layer with {43}2{46·66·83} topology, while compound 2 exhibits a 3D (3,6)-connected framework with {4·62}2{42·610·83} topology. Furthermore, the luminescent property of 1 and the magnetic property of 2 have been studied and discussed.
