Measurement of steam temperature fluctuations at outlet of once through steam generator tubes

  • 1. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

The 40 MW(t) Fast Breeder Test Reactor at Kalpakkam has two once through steam generator modules operating in parallel in each of its two secondary sodium loops. Temperature fluctuations at tube outlet were measured at different power levels up to 10.1 MW(t) using 1 mm diameter grounded junction thermocouples. At 8.8 MW(t), due to low superheat, random fluctuations in temperature with amplitude up to 5 deg.C were observed in some tubes. By analysing the statistical features of the temperature signal, it was concluded that these fluctuations are not indicative of any instability in the steam generator. (authors)
