Separation of the components of the TBP-H2 MBP-HDBP-H3PO4 mixture
Description
Several schemes for the separation of dibutylphosphoric acid (HDBP), monobutylphosphoric acid (H2MBP) and orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) as hydrolytic and radiolytic degradation products from tri-n-butylphosphate (TBP) were studied. For the resolution of a HDBP, H2MPB and H3PO4 mixture in TBP-diluent, or in TBP-diluent-heavy metal nitrate (U-VI, Th-IV or Zr-IV), techniques such as ion exchange chromatography, ion chromatography and separation onto a chromatographic alumina column were investigated. For the identification, determination and analytical resolution following up for the several systems studied, techniques such as refraction index measurement, electrical conductivity measurement, molecular spectrophotometry and gas chromatography were applied. Special emphasys was given to the separation using alumina column where the HDBP acid was retained and eluted selectively for its separation from TBP-varsol-uranyl nitrate mixtures. This analytical procedure was applied to the samples coming from the Uranium Purification Pilot Plant in operation at the Centro de Engenharia Quimica (IPEN). (Author)

Estudaram-se sistematicamente varios esquemas de separacao dos acidos di-n-butil fosforico (HDBP), mono-butil fosforico (H2MBP) e H3PO4, produtos de degradacao hidrolitica e radiolitica do fosfato de tri-n-butila (TBP). Para a resolucao da mistura HDBP, H2MBP e H3PO4 em TBP-diluente, ou TBP-diluente-nitrato de metais pesados (U-VI, Th-IV e Zr-IV), procurou-se aplicar as tecnicas de cromatografia de troca ionica, cromatografia de ions e separacao em coluna de alumina ativada. Para a identificacao, determinacao e acompanhamento da resolucao analitica dos varios sistemas usados aplicaram-se as tecnicas de medida de indice de refracao, condutividade eletrica, espectrofotometria de absorcao molecular e cromatografia a gas. Estudou-se, com especial enfase, a separacao em coluna de alumina, fixando-se e eluindo-se, seletivamente, o acido HDBP de misturas TBP/varsol - nitrato de uranilo e fizeram-se adaptacoes deste procedimento para as amostras provenientes da Usina Piloto de Purificacao de Uranio do Centro de Engenharia Quimica do IPEN.
