The synthesis of 18O-benzoquinones for vibrational studies

Creators

  • 1. National Inst. of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, Bethesda, Md. (USA)

Description

The procedure developed for substituting 18O for 16O in the appropriate benzoquinone involves dissolving a small quantity of the deuterated compound in dry benzene and adding >95% enriched H218O. The sample is then evacuated, sealed, and shaken for several days to ensure complete exchange. The sealed tube was opened and the benzoquinone isolated and purified by sublimation
