Description
The data on 76 patients treated for both benign and milignant giantcell tumors (GCT) of the bone are presented. An attempt is made to separate these 2 types of tumors morphologically and clinically, select a proper treatment because in case of an madequate treatment the bening tumor can recur in 50% of patients and even metastasize; milignant transformation can occur in 10% of cases. Individual planning of GCT treatment strategy was performed taking into account the morphologic investigation data, type of bone destruction and neoplasm localization. The main treatment method in the surgical one involving different types of operations. In some cases the patients were subjected to pre- and postoperative irradiation and chemotherapy. It is shown that the application of the entire complex of therapeutic measures allows to reduce the recurrence rate and improve significantly the delayed results of GCT patient treatment
