Effect of X-ray examination regime on radiation doses for patients separate organs

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Rentgenologii i Radiologii, Moscow (USSR)

Description

Dependences of tissue doses for lungs, active bone marrow, mammary glands, thyroid, pancreas, liver, kidneys, spleen, stomach, male and female genitals on the electric potential of X-ray tube in main types of X-ray examinations. Tissue doses were determined by thermoluminescent dosimetry with the use of LiF-detectors. Reference man phantom was applied for experiments. It has been established that during X-ray studies tissue doses of the irradiation of vital organs depend very little on the voltage of the X-ray tube in the range of 80-120 kV. It is recommended to apply X-ray radiation detectors with a high sensitivity as well as sparing technology of examination for decreasing radiation exposure of patients. On condition of the constancy of tissue doses the main criterion for a chosen regime is the information rapacity of an X-ray image
