Solar active regions: a monograph from Skylab Solar Workshop III

Creators

Description

The book treats recent advances in the physics of solar active regions. Following a review of the overall structure and evolution of active regions, the characteristics and physical mechanisms of the portions of active regions extending from the photosphere to the corona are examined, and the mass motions and dynamics of active regions are discussed. Spectroscopic diagnostic results for the transition zone and coronal portions of active regions are presented, along with observations of active region structures in these areas. Attention is also given to the physics of coronal static loop structures, loop flows and magnetohydrodynamic instability and the mechanisms of active region energy supply. Potential areas for further research are indicated
