Soil compaction studies by gamma ray transmission method
Description
The well known gamma ray transmission method is very useful for in situ soilbulk density and moisture content measurements in laboratory as well as in the field. In the present work, this method has been used to test the maximum compaction at particular moisture stages. The transmission equation has been modified in order to be able to determine dry as well as wet density values as from the normally used transmission equations only when dry density is determined. The measured density values by gamma ray transmission method have been compared with density values calculated by conventional method of density determination of the same compacted samples. (author)
