A new free electron laser in the far-infrared region

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan). Research Inst. for Scientific Measurements

Description

Using a short-bunched beam of electrons from the linear accelerator of the Kyoto University, we constructed prebunched FEL and investigated the characteristics of the output radiation from resonator. By comparing the output intensity of the radiation of the resonator with that of radiation without the resonator, we confirmed amplification of radiation due to stimulated emission of radiation. We also observed dependence of the output intensity on the diameter of the window, through which the radiation is extracted from the resonator. As the diameter decreases, the output intensity increases at first, and reach the maximum at the diameter of about 15 mm, and then decreases. (author)
