Radiation monitoring systems network at Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 and future extension to Unit 1

Description
At Cernavoda NPP U2 (commercial operation started in the fall of 2007), it was implemented the Radiation Monitoring System network - RMS (BSI 67800). By implementing this system, the collective dose of the operating personnel is expected to be reduced due to a better radiation hazard control, by minimizing the personnel entering into high radiation areas. The RMS main functions are: monitoring the radiation hazards of the plant and signaling occurrence of high level activity; parameters set-up for the automatic and manual operation of the channels; remotely signaling of equipment failures (RCS / MCR rooms); availability of short and long term databases; provides customer reports, displays historical events, etc. In March 2010, it was approved the extension of the RMS network from Unit 2 to Unit 1, in order to integrate the fixed radiation monitoring systems: Gamma Area, Contamination and Tritium in Air Monitoring, Liquid and Gaseous Effluent Monitor and Portable Radiation Monitors. In conclusion, further modernization of the radiation protection systems, leading to personnel and public exposure reduction, represents a top priority for the plant management and health physics department staff.
