Immobilization of rad waste residues using inorganic ion-exchangers / cement matrices
Description
The reduction of caesium leachability by the addition of inorganic ion-exchangers to enhance the safety of conditioned cement rad waste packages has been evaluated. The main aim was to obtain solidified waste products to meet the requirement of the interim disposal regulations. solidification was carried out using different inorganic ion-exchangers. The inorganic ion-exchangers used are: Ammonium molybdophosphate(Amp), hexa cyano cobalt o ferrate (HCCF), silica gel and alumina. The work covered also some investigations to assess the leachability, compressive strength and water immersion of the rad waste cement packages. Results of Cs-134 leachability, compressive strength values after 28 days from simulated ILLW solidified in portland cement mixed with the four inorganic ion-exchangers of inter set are presented and discussed.2 fig., 4 tab
