Diffusion of resonance radiation in an infinite medium when there is absorption in the continuum
Description
In the diffusion approximation with respect to the frequency analytic stationary and nonstationary solutions are found for the problem of transfer of resonance radiation in an infinite homogeneous nonconservative medium when there is absorption in the continuum. The scattering is assumed to be coherent in the system of the atom with an upper level broadened by damping. The distribution of the sources is uniform. Expressions are obtained for the radiation intensity and also for the mean number of photon scatterings and the number of uncompensated transitions from the upper to the lower states of the atoms. The asymptotic behaviors of these quantities are found
