Description
Liquid metal plutonium containing targets can be considered as ones of the most promising neutron producing accelerator driven cores with high neutron yield. Np-Pu alloy with 50% Np is characterised by low melting point 550 deg C and can be used as a primary neutron producing material generating about 390 neutrons per one incident proton with energy 1.5 GeV. The problem of the window isolating accelerator vacuum from target material can be solved on the basis of suggested gas dynamic closing effect. Possible design of gas and liquid circuits is proposed.
