Description

The structural, optical and electrical properties of Er2O3 films prepared on sapphire substrates by e-beam evaporation in vacuum from a ceramic target were investigated. The optical characteristics of these films from UV to IR range were studied by means of absorption, reflection and emission spectroscopy, and electrical resistivity measurements of the obtained films were carried out. As a result of excitation by a 980-nm semiconductor diode laser radiation the IR photoluminescence of Er3+ ions near 1550 nm at room temperature in the polycrystalline ceramic target and crystalline film was observed. Besides, the visible light emission corresponding to the two-step excitation mechanism of the up-conversion emission from the ceramic target was detected
