Radioactive waste management represents activities, which are focused on their minimising, efficient treatment, conditioning into a waste package and their safe disposal. In compliance with the obligations arising from international agreements, inspection and assessment activities of Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic (UJD) were focused on activity and volume minimisation of produced radioactive waste and increasing of radioactive waste management process safety. Amount of radioactive waste produced at NPPs V-1 and V-2 Bohunice as well as at NPP Mochovce in 2000 is given. As a consequence of reconstruction works realised on unit 1 in the frame of nuclear safety improvement, higher solid radioactive waste volume was produced at NPP V-1 Bohunice. Produced liquid and solid radioactive waste is stored within the stores of individual nuclear installations. Volumes of stored radioactive waste are given in table. Liquid radioactive waste has been conditioned into the solidified waste form by bituminization at bituminization facilities. The Technology for treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste Bohunice (BSC) for the cementation of radioactive concentrates was commissioned at the end of 2000, too. Solid radioactive waste is treated at BSC by supercompaction or incineration, respectively. Volumes of treated and conditioned RAW at BSC in 2000 are given. In 2000 the need of both on-site and off-site radioactive waste transportation was increased in coherency with NPP A-1 Bohunice decommissioning as well as BSC and repository commissioning. On the basis of consignor applications and according to the 'Atomic Act' and competent regulation, UJD approved 5 types of transport equipment and issued 4 permits for radioactive waste transportation. Total number of performed transports and amounts of transported radioactive waste are given in table. Transport of this radioactive waste has been performed by BSC in co-operation with NPP Bohunice. UJD performed inspections on selected transports of radioactive waste through the routine inspection activities of its site inspector. All transports of radioactive waste were carried-out in accordance with conditions set down by relevant UJD decisions. In 2000 no events occurred during the radioactive waste transports
