Preparation and magnetic properties of YMn2(Si/sub 1-x/Ge/sub x/)2 compounds

Description
Preparation and magnetic properties of the pseudo-ternary YMn2(Si/sub 1-x/Ge/sub x/)2 compounds are reported. The lattice constants are measured as a function of composition and obey Vegard's law. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities shows that all the compounds are antiferromagnetic. The relation between the Neel temperature and the Mn-Mn interatomic distance for YMn2(Si/sub 1-x/Ge/sub x/)2 is given and compared with data for RMn2Si2 (R = Gd, Nd). The paramagnetic Curie temperatures as functions of the Mn-Mn interatomic distance are also given and discussed
